I've just listened to 'Seal the
Deal' and honestly I can say I like it even better
than "Lick 'Em and Leave 'Em". What about
the new release?
(Adam) The new release is sex-rock
power. Bigger, louder, prouder, the result of 2 years
of touring, no sleep, waking up in the gutter thirsty
for more action. We experienced a line-up change,
crossing paths with a hell-raising singer known as
Chad Cherry from Detroit, Michigan who we knew we
had to be in a band with. We went into the studio
and recorded the album, fast & furious. The result
is what you'll hear on "Seal the Deal".
Stadium punk.
Why have you chosen 'Seal the Deal' as title and what
about the cover picture?
(Adam) Seal the Deal is an attitude, it's about slicing
through the bullshit and getting down to the real
nitty gritty. The album cover represents the style
of such a mindframe. Leather fringe, classic anti-fashion,
the new punk. The picture is the back of the coat
of our #1 fan.
I know a green vynil version is also out.
(Adam) Gregg of Get Hip (and Cynics) was stoked on
going for a classic 70's album look & feel to
this one. He suggested a full-color gatefold and matching
green 150-gram vinyl, plus a 60x40cm full color tour
poster inside. The LP looks killer, a beautiful record.
You put "Seal the Deal" on the stereo, you
open up the gatefold (behind-the-scenes-tour-photo-collage),
then you throw down your stash, roll it up and rock
the fuck out.
What about "King, the Red Light"?
(Adam) Hmmmm, listen to it on headphones with your
eyes closed, late at night. It's the last song on
"Seal the Deal", it's over 8 minutes long,
sounds like an acid trip and could be about flirting
with death. We were listening to a lot of early Janes
Addiction before we wrote this one. It's the perfect
album closer.
Is there any thing that you absolutely have to do
in Italy?
(Adam) Load up on espresso and make eyes at Italian
girls.
What are you favorite songs among the new ones and
which of them involve the audience more?
(John) well i really wanted we'll drink three on the
record, i think that's my favorite by far, that and
the last tune, but that's really just for self indulgence.
they are all still pretty new in our live set but
i think the audience really digs on seal the deal,
usually we get the whole crowd chanting the ending
"heys" and that is pretty cool to watch
fromt eh stage, that and we'll drink three with the
whole drum solo/guitar solo part. all we need now
is the pyrotechnic production and we're rady for full
on arena rock, ha.
The videos for "You Wanna Know How To Love Me"
and "She Won't Go" were on rotation on MTV,
will it be the same with "All the Way"?
(John - run with it, lie, lie, lie, ha.) I hope so,
we've been lucky to have good producers, the most
recent one
was shot by a friend of ours in LA. all live footage
which turned out great. I have been told that some
of the new tunes are already getting played during
certain shows, mtv has been really good to us so far.
we'll se what happens.
You've been compared to bands such as Hellacopters,
Motorhead, Stooges, Mötley Crüe, ecc...
but how would you describe your own music to those
who have not listened to you yet?
(John) I think it's more along the lines of REO Speedwagon
mixed with Anthrax, but that's just me. I also kinda
like the labeling of cheap trick getting screwed in
the ass by AC/DC captured on vinyl. that's actually
really accurate.
Talking about Motley Crue, I know you have supported
Vince Neil.very pissed. Have you got any funny story
to tell us about your gigs?
(John) there's a fine line between funny and sad.
Luckily most of our stories go right down that line.
This is probably the most dangerous one so far: we're
riding in our tour bus with Urge Overkill on a day
off or something
at night, everyones drinking and for some reason there's
other people on the bus too. this wasted dude is kneeling
on the floor next to the driver giving him directions
to wherever we're going, tells the driver makes a
last second turn. Nash is standing up drinking a beer
and falls backward towards the front of the bus smashing
into this kid, this sends this kid down the stairs
and he slams through the door out onto the street
while we
are driving in Philidelphia traffic at night. somehow
he is ok and doesn't get runover, of course Nash gets
up and never spilled a drop of his beer. There's a
million more and i'm sure we'll have even more after
this europe tour with some help from everyone out
there.
I've recently listened to THE STEEPWATER BAND cd,
what are the best bands from Chicago?
(John) the best or the most famous? my favorites are
Bible of the Devil and Local H. There are some bigger
ones but they really don't deserved to be mentioned.
There is definately a great rock scene happening in
Chicago.
American Motherload, Knife of Simpson, Imperial Battle
Snake.
What is the coolest town and the coolest venue in
the US in your opinion?
(Adam) Chicago, IL. The Double Door. Gritty, amazing
sound, where all the rockers hang out.
You'll be touring Italy again in May, what are your
memories of the past Italian tour?
(Adam) Hmmm, a bit blurry. Our consensus was Italy
had the 2nd hottest chicks of every country we've
visited.
Do you know any Italian bands?
(Adam) We really dig The Nerds out of Torino. Marco
Monkey Motherfucker is a stud. Scarey Records put
out a 7-inch split between The Last Vegas and Bible
of the Devil, which the critics loved in American
press.
What kind of difference have you seen between the
Italian and the US fan?
(Adam) Whether in Italy, America or elsewhere, the
kids that come out to a Last Vegas concert are more
or less the same...the long-hairs, the rockers, the
punks, a lot of black & eyeliner, chicks wearing
leather mini-skirts and
high-heels. We attract the wild ones, the ones that
don't go home at night. The Last Vegas concert is
a chance to lose your inhibitions, to be who you want
to be, to dance your ass off, drink your face off,
and get your rocks off to the music. Tomorrow be damned,
capture the moment, life's pretty short.
You say you've been influenced by Blue Cheer, Guns'N'Roses,
70's Aerosmith, Stooges and Muddy Waters...what are
you listening to lately?
(Adam) A lot of Slade, Runaways, Motorhead, Orange
Goblin, Cherry Valence, High on Fire, LA Guns, Faces,
Thin Lizzy and Elvis. And we've got a bunch of new
tunes.
I leave you the last lines to try and convince the
Slam! readers to come to your gig.
(John) If you want hot, sweaty, loud, long haired,
high energy, rock and roll with a big bulge in its
crotch, this is your ticket. Not to mention all the
other things that are fun to do with us, drinking,
licking, having a wild time, etc. If you're lucky
you might even get to see Nathan try and dance. We
can't wait to see all of you at the shows so come
out and have a great time with us in the name of Rock
and Roll. -TLV
