VERSIONE ITALIANA

Federico Martinelli

I Dokken sono tornati con un grande album che richiama le sonorità del passato.
Di questo e molto altro abbiamo discusso con Don Dokken, leader della formazione californiana e punto di riferimento per ogni amante delle sonorità tipiche degli eighties.

Hi Don, first of all welcome to the pages of Slam, we are very happy to have the opportunity to ask you some questions.
Thanks i glad to be here

Let's talk about the new album : since some months now there had been some rumours of a return to the classical sounds of the first works, I'd then say that this is the album that all Dokken's fans were waiting for...do you agree with that ? ?
Yes, we tried to give our fans a classic sounding CD and it seem everyone feels it is

In the new CD we can appreciate the great work of Jon Levin, among the guitarists after Lynch I'd say he's the one who could better render the "old" Dokken's spirit, what do you think ?
Yes he is a great guitarist, his style is similar to lynch but he has other influences in his style as well

Still on this subject, tell us something about the guitarists who came before Levin, that is to say John Norum, Reb Beach and "our" il Alex De Rosso, with whom you had a better understanding and why ?
They are all great and have there own style, i loved playing with Alex but with him living in Italy it was to difficult for us to write together, we had a lot of fun on tour with the Scorpions i hope to work with all those guys in the future

How is the CD selling in these first weeks after its coming out ? What kind of reaction have you had from the fans? Is it possible for you, also thanks to the new technologies, to be updated on the sales situation?
Our CD Is number 1 in sells on the Internet this week, this is great i can see what all the sales are in each country with the Internet, this is great

Is there a song in the new album of which you're particulary proud ? Was it difficult to write songs going back to the past?
It was Very difficult to write L S A probably the hardest in my career, one of my favorites is 'Oasis" and "This Fire"

Regarding the new technologies, what do you think of the matter of the illegal download of the songs from Internet?
It is killing the artist, how can you make a living if you cant sell your music, its impossible

Always talking about Internet, do you also believe that the future of music will be always more & more digital and that the CDs and record shops will completely disappear?
Yes, i think within 5 years there will be no more big labels

We could see you recently in tour in Europe together with the Kingdom Come. How was the tour ? Do you think to come back to Europe in a short time?
We will try to come back this year but it is difficult because we live so far away, it is getting more expensive to go to Europe every year

In the past you had worked with some bands as their producer or anyway in studio with them ( Great White, XYZ, Antix ), what do you remember of those experiences ? Is there a young group with whom you'd like to work? They were great times being a producer, i want to do more but i need to find the right band

You've recently published your second solo album, which you promoted in the US with some dates supporting the Queensryche. How were these concerts? How do you find yourself in the acoustic dimension?
I love playing acoustic, I would like to tour Europe acoustically, its a lot of fun

Which are the groups of the past whom mostly influenced you?
Deep purple, thin lizzy, Saxon, Sabbath

The three albums which you'd advice to our readers.
First Tool CD - Chevelle- Beatles ONE

I now let you some room to say hello to Slam's readers...and I ask you to comment the rumours which would expect a Dokken's reunion in 2009 with the original line-up...
I Do not see a reunion in the near future, maybe when its time to retire we will do one last tour, its up to Jeff and Mick as well, not just George and myself.
