Let’s start talking about
your latest album, “A perfect mess”. It
seems like you’ve stepped back to the atmosphere
of your first album, I found it less dark and experimental
than “Split Vision”. How did you conceive
“A perfect mess” and what are the contents
you have decided to put in it?
Well I think we just took Split
Vision one step further and tried to write even better
songs and we also tried to open up the sound a little
bit, still kind of polished but at the same time a
little bit rough. I think “A Perfect Mess”
is more matured in a way and it really starts to sound
as it does in my head.
Once again you have worked with
Peter Tägtgren, who already produced “Split
Vision”. How did you get to choose him, who
is popular for producing bands like Dimmu Borgir,
Immortal, Children of Bodom, that are not exactly
sharing your same sound…?
Because we wanted it to sound
more massive and we didn’t know who should produce
Split Vision but our drummer Patrik came up whit Peter
and we thought about it and that he has his project
Pain and that involves pretty much melodies but at
the same time heavy stuff so we choose him.
We send him our preproduction and he liked it and
that’s also one of the reasons we choose him
because he hadn’t done any rock stuff before
and I think when the producer wants to do something
(especially Peter) you don’t say no.
I’m really satisfied whit Split Vision but the
latest is even better in my opinion. And of course
it was a little bit strange that we choose a metal
producer but that’s was one of the things that
we thought was pretty cool.
However, you are offering a more
commercial product, which anyhow shows your sound
has improved and your way of playing is more mature.
Are you happy with what you have achieved? Is there
anything you would change?
Of course not, you don’t
release a new album if you don’t think that
it is your best. But of course things can always be
better, next one is one step above.
Is there a song in “A perfect
mess” that you consider as your real hit or
you particularly love and why?
Well my personal favorite ( I
usually don’t have ) is Part of me, and that
because I really think I made a good song whit some
rellay good melodies, and thats my passion!
Let me spend a couple of words
for your version of “This corrosion”.
The choice is not so expectable and I must say that
among all the cover songs you have played this is
probably the best one I’ve heard… tough
sound, the perfect compromise between rock and dark.
What’s the story behind that choice and who
got the idea?
Thanks for the kind words! Well
from the beginning it was ment that Jyrki 69 was going
to guest on a cover for a bonus track. And when I
sat in the car to the studio the first day Sisters
of Mercy entered my mind. I have always liked them
and when I told the others it actually came up that
everybody in the band likes them so I thought about
Jyrkis voice and the unexpectable that Maryslim would
do a Sisters cover and it all went clear. Wy we choosed
“This Corrosion is because it’s a relly
good song and it is a hit and it’s kind of a
synth based song and I thought that we could do a
really cool rock/metal version. When we had recorded
it it was still ment to be a bonus but when all the
vocals was done it came clear to us that we actually
should have it on the album and we aslo made a video,
we where really pleased whit the results.
And now tell me how much you
like Sisters of Mercy, let’s see whether you
have a dark soul deep inside…
Ok I have already told you in
the question before haven’t I haha? Well I can
only speak for me but I have seen them live two times
and I have all there albums so you could call me a
medium fan hehe.
Last year you released the EP
“My Time” which was meant to be a kind
of “preview” for the new album. Why none
of the songs on “My time” appears on “A
perfect mess”?
It was actually meant to be another
single for the Spilt album but we choose to release
two songs which we recorded on the Split session but
they didn’t make it and two covers and a video,
so it was a release from Split Vision.
You have recently toured around
Europe supporting The 69 Eyes. What kind of experience
was it? How is the relationship with Jyrki and his
band?
It has been really great, we have
played for many people and it’s been a real
good feedback to so we’re so glad for this tour,
not a boring night on the whole trip.
Well the relation to Jyrki and 69 Eyes is really good
because we’re friends and like each other. It
almost felt like a little family on the tour haha.
How did the public respond to
the new album so far?
Well the people we played for
have embraced it I can say, I don’t know how
the album has done in the stores though.
Everyone thinks of Sweden, or
Scandinavia in general as a sort of Paradise. As far
as my experience is concerned, the best feature of
the Swedish scene is that all the bands share a certain
friendship and the will to support and help one another.
Do you think this is true? And what are the negative
aspects of being a band in Sweden?
Well I agree there isn’t
a competition between us but the negative side is
that maybe it is to much good bands in this small
country hehe.
Always about Sweden, there are
so many bands coming from there and the craziest thing
is that most of them are really good ones. I know
this question is not really politically correct but…is
there a band you think is overrated? And one band
which has been overlooked and not achieved the success
it deserved?
Yeah of course there is but It
wouldn’t be polite sitting here and talk shit
about bands so I don’t. I respect all bands
that are trying to make it fore the fun of playing
music.
Ok, that’s all. Thanks
a lot for your time. The last lines are for you to
say goodbye to the Slam! readers and maybe tell us
when we can see you in Italy again…
Thank you very much for having
me here to answer your questions!
I really hope that we can come to Italy very soon,
and to the readers I can only say:
Do what you’re believe in and don’t think
that anything is impossible because if you are really
sure about something and feel it in your guts then
go for it!!!
Cheers everybody!!
