Hi
Bam, thank you for your kindness first of all. What
projects you’re involved in right now?
My pleasure, Moreno! Right
now I just had a shower and I made lunch and killed
all the ants in the kitchen! Ha ha ha.
Okay, really.. I’ve just finished directing
and editing a video for American Heartbreak.
Maybe you know them? Billy Rowe – ex-Jetboy
from San Francisco. That was a lot of fun. Along with
that sort of thing, I produce Rock n Roll TV with
Share. (my wife)
What’s Rock n Roll TV?
Rock n Roll TV is an internet
TV show which showcases underground bands, pop culture
and the arts that survive beneath the radar of mainstream
crap media.
What’s your favorite episode
and why?
My favorite episode is always
the next one! People email us and tell us their addicted
to watching Rock n Roll TV on their computers and
iPods and I guess we’re addicted to making it!
We love going out there and discovering independent
talent that gets ignored.
“Our” Belladonna
are also starring in your episodes, as well as many
other breakthrough bands. Tell me something about
the underground scene in California. Is there any
good band to recommend to the SLAM! readers?
Yes, Belladonna contacted us on
myspace (myspace.com/rocknrolltv)
and then sent us their very well-produced video. The
underground scene here is always exploding with new
bands… The Red Hearts are quite good along with
The Start. Of course, every band we feature is recommended
for your readers to check out!
You’re also working as
a director in your brand new “Bam13 Films”.
You also have the Blessing’s video. How do you
work on the musical video what kind of software do
you use?
I’ve been making videos
for twenty years! I started life as aphotographer,
taught by my father. These days I do everything on
a computer using a G4 and Final Cut Pro along with
After Effects 6.5, Particle Illusion and of course,
Photoshop and Illustrator for the videos. For the
sound, I use Logic, Soundtrack Pro and Pro Tools.
You’ve also worked on graphics
and pictures in the Blessings’
album. How did you start working together?
Jeremy approached me a few years
ago with regards to making a video. Then we ended
up producing half of his new album here at our studio,
Bubbleland. Jeremy is such a cool guy amidst the posers
in Hollywood that it was a natural progression for
me to do his artwork and photos etc.
Looking back to the past and
your old bands, what’s the video you’re
more proud and the one you’re more ashamed of?
I’m ashamed of all of them.
I’m always striving to create something more
unique than the last effort. That’s why I keep
making them!
You starred in the soundtrack
of 'While I'm Dead... Feed The Dog', produced by Ric
Browde. What was it about?
Hey, it’s a long book. You’ll
have to buy it from ricbrowde.com
and figure it out. All I can say is it’s one
of the funniest books I’ve ever read. Ric is
truly a sick person.
I read on the Bubble site you’ve
made some t-shirts with "All My Heroes Are Dead"
written on. What about your childhood heroes and the
ones of today?
I think the shirt was basically
saying don’t depend too much on your heroes
because 9 times out of 10 they will let you down.
I guess as you grow older your heroes change anyway
and even your definition of a hero changes. Today
some of my heroes might be Noam Chomsky
or Howard Zinn. Of course, John
Bonham and Elvis Presley still
rate.
You’re also a very good
designer and some of your works are available on www.bam13ink.com.
You’ve done many CD covers, what’s the
best one ever in your opinion?
My favorite cd cover is for the
last Bubble album, Rock n Roll Hell because I got
to revert back to one of my favorite mediums: collage.
We do at some point in the future want to release
this album on vinyl so that the cover can be displayed
at its full size.
Last week I tried to get in touch
with Jo Dog, and I wrote to you by
mistake (alcohol is so bad!), you’ve been so
kind tryin’ to help me out. By the way, can
you tell me something more on the Sonic Boom
project and what has become of him?
Jo is always writing his own songs
though lately I think he’s been working with
Paul Black on some new Sonic
Boom material but don’t quote me on
that.
You also played with The
Wildhearts, what do you think of Ginger
and his latest solo album?
I’m a sucker for Ginger’s
songwriting so I like just about everything he produces.
Funnily enough, our Rock n Roll TV London correspondent,
Robbie Tart has just interviewed
Ginger for an upcoming episode. Along with a little
bit with Andy McCoy of Hanoi Rocks.
Recently Dogs D’Amour
played in Italy, sorry Tyla and his
band... but I also saw you supporting Alice
Cooper back in 2002... what are your memories
of that gig and of Italy in general?
We loved that show! It was fantastico!
Multo buon! (spelling?) The fans were so loving and
affectionate to us we were overwhelmed and would love
to bring Bubble there.
A few weeks ago I had an interview
with Adam Bomb, who talked about
Steven Adler very badly. If I asked
you, what rockstar/musician you would talk bad about
and why?
Adam Bomb. He is the most annoying
person in rock n roll I’ve ever met.
Thank you again Bam, the last
lines are for you.
The obstacle is the path. The
present is a gift. Viva Italia!
