“Times they change”…but
not that much!… A slightly heavier sound (what
a great guitarworking!!!), a more evident similarity
to the early Harem Scarem, but overall a bunch of
great songs and an exellent performance for your second
masterpiece…Am i wrong?
Absolutely right man!!! That was
our intention. In fact, we pursued a more heavier
sound. You know, guitars all around, melodies evywhere...but
maybe, the most important thing here is songwriting.
We paid much attention to the songwriting. We took
some time to write solid songs, always trying to bring
people something new.
The first rate quality of this
brand new release proves that the guide of Mark Mangold
was important but not necessary….
Mark Mangold did a good job with
our fisrt album. We are really proud to have Mark
involved in the that project. But, this time we want
something slightly different from our fisrt one. We
had a real good material to deal with, so we just
let ourselves go. We are really proud with the result.
We spent many hours in the studio trying to do our
best, and at the end, it was worth the waiting...
Three years have passed by since
your wonderful debut album…What have you been
doing in the meanwhile?
We spent many time writing songs
and arranging them the best way we could. We started
from zero, we had to show that we are here to stay.
That’s why we did our best to bring people the
better songs we were able to write at the moment.
We don’t know if this is enough for being considerated
popular, or a real good band, but we don’t care
anyway. We do what we do because we love it.
Furthermore, we have a new label called Vicious Records,
so we had to deal with all that stuff too.
“Times they change”
is released under Vicious Records. What went wrong
with Vinny Records?
Did any further Label offer to you a deal for this
album?
We had different options at that
moment, but we decided to give Vicious Records a try.
We liked the way they talked about 91 Suite and their
plans for us for the future. Everything is fine with
Vicente Corral from Vinny Records, he is our manager
right now. Vicente took that decision by himself.
Will the album get a worldwide
release (including Japan) or do 91 Suite just aim
to the european market?
Well, it is been negociated at
the time we speak. We hope to be in Japan, as well
as, any other part of the planet.
Any plans for a regular live
tour?
It will depend on whether people
buy or not the album. We, of course, hope to be anywhere
we can, but these days, it is not easy for a band
to arrange an european tour.
91 Suite have got a solid reputation
as the best Spanish AOR act ever. But how much is
AOR followed in your Country? And how much support
by fans can spanish bands count on? In Italy we have
some excellent musicians and bands (such as Eva, just
to name one), but seems like “foreign is better”.
What’ s the situation out there?
Similar to that, we guess...It
is not easy to play Melodic Rock in a country like
Spain or Italy...maybe everywhere in the world these
days. Spain is not different in that sense. We have
real good efforts such as, Nexx, Airless, Eden Lost...but
people don’t pay much attention to this kind
of music anymore. We hope that everything can change
in the near future.
As far as i know both of your
albums have a spanish version as well…Why such
a choice?
Not really, it is only that we
recorded the spanish version of some of the songs
in the album. We have five tracks in this second album,
but not included in the international version. The
reason is that Spanish is really important worldwide,
though we chose English as the linguistic vehicle
for 91 Suite music.
Over the last few years many
promising AOR acts from Spain appeared on the international
scene, often thanks to your previous Label Vinny Records,
but seems like many of them didn’ t survive
the second release…What’ s the situation
right now?
There are several bands working
hard right now, Nexx, Eden Lost, Airless...they are
trying to bring their music to the people who love
this specific style. Some of them lost in the way,
but it is something natural, they got their own lives
and problems to deal with. Vinny gave us the opportunity
to make a dream come true now everything depends on
everyone and his own views.
Some spanish communities of rockers
seem to be the most active sources in the filesharing
websites….What’ s your opinion on this
matter? As far as i know cds are too hugely priced
in your Country…
Nowadays, bands have a way to
promote their music without spending so much money.
But on the other hand, it lacks some kind of regulation.
Of course, it is important to have all this kind of
stuff via internet but we guess there are several
ways to protect music from illegal downloads or stuff
like that.
I know you recently went to Barcelona
in order to shoot a videoclip: what song is featured
and when will it be released?
It is going to be released along
this week. The song is called Seal It With A Kiss,
and it is going to be our first single from the album.
Everyone will have the opportunity to download it
from our website www.91suite.com.
What’ s your goal with
this second album, and how would you rate it in comparison
to the first highly acclaimed one?
Maybe it can be...try to reach
even more people than we did with our first album.
We want people to know us, to know our music and then
to decide whether if they like or not. We also want
to play live everywhere we can. Of course we like
our first album, but maybe it was something less mature. This
is a logic evolution to a higher sound from the band
itself.
A last curiosity: what did the
hell happen in that…”91 Suite” you
chose as the band’ s name???
Nothing really...hehehe... well,
at least nothing more than in any other room...No,
it was just the sound of the word. We liked it, so
we took it.
